Cloud-based network management

In today’s world, everything and every work revolve around our beloved internet. No matter what we do or are trying to achieve in life, everything needs an online presence these days. The reason behind this is that the web has become a necessity. Whether you’re looking for information, making business deals, or even buying stuff – you will always need the internet to do so. That’s why it is pertinent to keep your network safe and secure because your company’s security depends on its performance.

cloud-based network management

Network management involves keeping a check on different aspects of a company’s network. Nowadays, cloud-based solutions have become very popular among various enterprises to check their network infrastructure. So let’s see what we can do with cloud-based network management and how it works:

One of the most significant advantages of adopting this approach is that your infrastructure gets more visibility than traditional solutions. This allows you to monitor your network at a single place, i.e., the cloud; thus, empowering admins with deep insight about their network and enabling them to observe all sorts of critical aspects like user experience, bandwidth usage & consumption, and security breaches.

Another advantage of using this approach is that your data gets centralized as all your tasks can be managed and executed from one place. This makes the entire process very efficient because you don’t have to check your different systems for any changes. Cloud-based network management tools like Gigamon provide real-time monitoring, another excellent feature of cloud-based network management solutions.

Nowadays, everything is done online, and so is your business. Hackers are trying to crack into the company’s network every now and then, which makes it very important for companies to secure their data from threats like cyber attacks, viruses, etc.

Cloud-based network management tools generally use open source agents that allow systems and applications to send the information they generate to a central location. It can then be aggregated and analyzed. This real-time, centralized approach enables companies to get more visibility into their network operations and IT infrastructure.

So, all in all, cloud-based network management solutions are certainly a step forward compared to traditional network management solutions. The fact that they offer real-time monitoring capabilities and provide deep insight into applications, users, and devices makes them more popular among various enterprises these days.

Many IT professionals are choosing cloud-based network management tools compared to traditional, on-premise network management systems because of the numerous advantages of this approach.

The advantages of cloud-based network management

Cloud-based network management solutions provide real-time monitoring capabilities Cloud-based tools offer deep insight into applications, users, and devices Cloud-based network management offers excellent visibility into your infrastructure

What if a company decides to implement both traditional, on-premise network management solutions and cloud-based solutions?

Now, as we have seen the advantages of both these network management approaches, it is natural for companies to think about why can’t they implement both traditional & cloud-based solutions. Well, the answer is yes; you can certainly implement a hybrid approach to keep a check on your network.

But before you take the plunge into it, you need to be sure that all your requirements can be fulfilled with a hybrid approach.

The pros and cons of hybrid cloud-based network management

Compared to traditional solutions, hybrid cloud-based tools are more efficient because they provide both on-premise and cloud-based features. You can easily manage your network through a single cloud-based tool just like you did with traditional solutions, so this method offers great operational consistency. The most significant setback of using a hybrid approach is that it might be expensive for companies to implement a hybrid strategy as compared to a traditional or even cloud-based system

So if you’re still ready to move forward with the hybrid approach, then make sure you thoroughly research the different options available to you before making any decision.

Do companies need both cloud-based & traditional network management tools?

The last question that is often asked is: do companies need both cloud-based & traditional network management solutions? Well, the answer is up to you and your organization.

If both the types of solutions offered by Gigamon suit your needs, then yes, you can undoubtedly go for it. But if only one of them fits the bill, then there is no point in going for the other one because doing so will not give any benefits.

For example, suppose you don’t need real-time network monitoring capability because you already have an effective, traditional solution for it in place. In that case, it is better to go for a cloud-based network management tool instead of a hybrid approach.

So to answer the long-asked question of whether companies need both cloud-based & traditional management tools or not, I would say that a hybrid solution is worth considering if it matches your precise business needs.

Which factors do you need to consider before making a decision?

The big question is which factors you need to keep in mind when deciding whether to go for cloud-based network management tools or traditional, on-premise tools.

Well, the answer to this question again depends on your business needs and what you want. But before making a decision, I would suggest you go through each of these factors:

For example, if you need real-time network traffic visibility, cloud-based tools are a better option than traditional ones. Suppose your organization doesn’t have a proper security mechanism in place. In that case, you can implement cloud-based solutions equipped with security features like an Intrusion Prevention system & vulnerability scanner. If your network is of complex structure and you have a small team of skilled employees, then traditional management tools are better for you. If your company has invested vast amounts of money in setting up a conventional management solution, it is better to stick with that. If your company doesn’t have an effective, traditional network security solution in place, then cloud-based tools are the best for you.

Other than the factors mentioned above, there are other things as well like; if you’re looking for cost-effective and efficient network monitoring, then cloud-based tools are the best for you. But if your company has a dedicated team that manages firewall rules and other security tasks, then traditional management tools are better for you.

So as you can see, there is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to deciding whether to go with cloud-based network management tools or traditional ones.

After giving you a detailed comparison of Cloud-based vs. traditional network management tools, I hope it has helped you make the right decision regarding which one is better for your organization.

In my opinion, if your company already has invested huge amounts of money & resources in setting up network security infrastructure, then it makes a lot more sense to go for traditional network management tools instead of cloud-based ones. But if you don’t have any such infrastructure and you’re on a budget as well, then cloud-based tools are better for your organization.

Also, while reading this post or article, you might have realized that there is no clear winner between the two types of tools. Every solution has its pros & cons, and that’s why you need to decide in line with your business needs rather than going for the latest technology.

So have you decided whether or not to go with cloud-based network management solutions? Which factors were most important for you when making this decision? Share your experiences with us in the comments section below.
